A moment I'll never forget...
My favorite memory after working with Habitat for 10 years is the mortgage burning ceremony. One of our Habitat homebuyers who had been a domestic abuse survivor and the mother of two daughters was determined to create a different environment for her children. She dreamed of buying her own home and followed that dream through Habitat for Humanity after learning about us at the battered women’s shelter. She gave her kids a home of their own to build positive and lasting memories, sent two daughters to college, and was so proud after making her last mortgage payment that she burned the mortgage documents in her back yard!
